World Hindi Day, also known as Vishwa Hindi Divas, is observed annually on January 10 to commemorate the first time Hindi was spoken in the United Nations General Assembly in 1949. Hindi speakers and devotees celebrate this day in India and around the world as an opportunity to promote Hindi literature. Over 260 million people worldwide speak Hindi, an Indo-Aryan language, making it the fourth most spoken language worldwide. Along with English, it is one of the two official languages of the Union of India and the official language of the Indian government.
